Tuatha Events, Talks & Tours

Tuatha Events, Talks & Tours

There are few things better than enjoying a good day out in great company, and our tours offer exactly that. Experiencing one of Ireland’s ancient or historic sites with a good guide is great, but imagine experiencing it with someone who knows it better than anyone else. The person who carried out excavations there, or who has spent years researching and writing publications about it.

That’s what we offer. It is part of our mission to give you direct access to the leading experts in Irish archaeology and heritage, so you can join fellow members as we all discover the stories of the landscape together, with the added bonus of being able to interact and ask questions of the expert.

As a member you can join us on our exclusive expert-led tours and events. We have around 10 events per year, and we try to have a good geographical spread.  We’ve had tours of the Hill of Tara with Professor Muiris O’Sullivan, the leading expert on the Mound of the Hostages, we’ve walked the ways of Glendalough with Christiaan Corlett who wrote a groundbreaking book on the monastic complex. We’ve climbed the storied slopes of Montpelier Hill with Neil Jackman who described the excavations there and what lies beneath the surface, and we had an insightful tour of the Dingle Peninsula with Isabel Bennett who was part of the landmark Dingle Peninsula Archaeological Survey to name just a few outings.

Tuatha has been an invaluable guide on my journey into Ireland’s past. There is such a wide range of resources to suit my needs at different times, from online courses and talks to in-person tours. I find this range of options gives me the flexibility I need to fit into a busy work and family schedule.

We’ve also had wonderful experiences together, seeing the remarkable birdlife on the Saltee Islands, trekking through the stunning Caher Valley in the Burren, and we’ve even voyaged to Skellig Michael.

One of the recent experiences had us all getting hands-on with early medieval stone carving and casting a Bronze Age axe at the Centre for Experimental Archaeology and Material Culture at University College Dublin. It was a fun and deeply immersive day learning together.

It really is wonderful to spend time together in the company of people who love exploring Ireland’s archaeology and heritage. Our events are nearly always free to members, though on rare occasions there may be a small contribution towards boat or bus hire required. Otherwise, the tours and events come as part of your membership.

As a core policy of Tuatha, we believe in paying experts and professionals fairly for the time and knowledge they give us, whether for a webinar, a tour or helping us with one of our courses. So when you join Tuatha, you help support the many researchers, heritage professionals and enthusiasts who love sharing their expertise and passions.

So if you’d like to be part of a community of people who are all passionate about exploring the wonderful heritage of Ireland, take the plunge and start exploring with Tuatha today!

“Having a Tuatha membership gives me an instant friend group with a shared interest in history and heritage.”
