Part 1: The Road to 1916 – They have left us our Fenian dead
This first lecture covers the build-up to 1916, taking you on a journey back though the 19th century and the origins of the nationalist and republican movement. This is a backstory that encompasses the 1798 Rebellion, the 1848 Young Ireland Rebellion, the 1867 Fenian Rising and the infamous ‘Dynamite Campaign.’
Damian charts the beginnings of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army, their key leaders, and discuss the sequence of events that brought Dublin to the brink of violence as the Great War raged.
If you’d like to follow the action on the ground, we have an illustrated guide here.
